Taking the road less traveled

Our Gear

Below you will find some of the gear we use every time we are out discovering the world. It's not a definitive list but it's a lot of the important items we use each and every day.

Snow Peak Amenity Dome

Our tent for the last three years has been the spacious Snow Peak Amenity Dome.

Since 2014 we've been camping in the Snow Peak Amenity Dome. The interior is spacious for two adults and a small dog. The large vestibule has given us space to hang out and even make breakfast on rainy Northwest mornings. For a while we considered and even bought a smaller tent, but after using it only a few times we went back to the Amenity Dome.

Exped MegaMat 10

The Exped MegaMat 10 is the best night sleep we have ever had on the ground.

These mat provide a cushy night sleep and have a high level of insulation that makes they ideal for colder nights. You won't be able to feel the rocky or bumpy ground you are laying on. As a side sleeper I do not wake up with achy shoulders or hips from a lack of cushioning. We have both the older red colored version and the new green colored version. The green model should come with a bag that is much easier to pack the mat into than the red one. I threw the red bag out and ended up buying these wide velcro straps to pack it up easier.

Snow Peak Collapsible Pour Over Coffee Brewer

We make pour over coffee at home. Why should we make worse coffee while camping?

The Snow Peak Collapsible Coffee Brewer uses the same filters as our home system and gives us the same great coffee taste when we are discovering the world.

Klean Kanteen Insulated Cups & Bottles

Waking up on a cold morning and making coffee is great with these cups.

These cups keep your coffee hot while you work on making a proper breakfast. They also have the added bonus of allowing you to hold a hot cup of coffee without burning your hands. The insulated bottles will keep ice for at least a day or more. There is nothing more refreshing on a hot trip than having some cold ice available 24 hours later.

Apple iPhone

Nearly all of our video is recorded on an iPhone.

They are the easiest thing to carry and capture with because they are always on us. Right now we are using an iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X.

Delorme Atlas and Gazetteer

A constant companion and faithful guide on our trips.

Useful for discussing and discovering distant locations. If you are traveling on the backroads we recommend you have an offline map to help you find your way back. We highlight roads, write notes and cover the front with stickers we pick up on the road.
