Winter Road Trip
Every late February we always get antsy for sunshine and warmer weather. This year we couldn't wait any longer and decided to hit the road early March straight to the desert.
We drove south to Death Valley National Park with the goal of soaking in our favorite hot springs. Our next stop was the Mojave National Preserve where we drove part of the Mojave Road. We stopped at a few road side attractions, signed the guest book at the mail box and admired the random collections of frogs, gnomes and Jeeps.
One of our favorite nights camping was at Lake Mohave. The sunset was incredible and the weather was perfect. Looking back at our trip, we should have stayed here another night. Instead we made our way back to Death Valley to discover 50+ mpg winds which made pitching a tent unbearable to deal with. Winnemucca, NV welcomed us with snow the following morning just like it had the previous year. If passing through the area be sure to stop by The Griddle, which has an incredible breakfast and fresh squeeze orange juice.
All in all, we survived sunshine, rain, sleet, hail and snow. We soaked in the 85 degree desert temps and struggled at times to stay warm with night temps dipping to the low 20s. We enjoyed many hot springs soaks along the way.
