Backcountry Roads in Death Valley

Backcountry Roads in Death Valley

We woke up in the parking lot campsite in Furnace Creek. The years of dust had started to make the zipper on our SnowPeak tent get a little sticky, but we made it out ok. We made some breakfast and headed out for the day. We swung through the ghost town of Rhyolite and checked out another desert art installation of 12 life-sized ghosts that looked like “The Last Supper”.

We decided to drive the Titus Canyon backcountry road. This is a winding narrow road that runs through a deep, narrow gorge cut into the Grapevine Mountains. Halfway thru the drive we stopped for some lunch at the Leadfield ghost town.

We checked out the Ubehebe Crater and decided to drive out to Racetrack Playa and find the sailing stones. On the way we passed thru Teakettle Junction. When we got to the playa we couldn't locate the stones.
